Day 30. My socks don’t match.
In general, that is. I don’t know how these things happen.
I just booked a lot of one way flights. My credit card company called to make sure it wasn’t fraud. Very excited, and very tired. More details later!

Day 25. Dinner.
In the past week, I’ve had four spaghetti dinners and quesadillas. Lunch usually consists of garlic knots at the Harvard Science center (cheap and filling – perfect for the hungry grad…i mean, post-bac student), or the occasional treat dining out with my fellow post-bacs. Living alone can be a blessing and a curse – and oftentimes a vicious cycle. By the time I get home, the last thing on my mind is taking a lot of effort to feed myself a proper meal. Case in point – I fell asleep at 6PM last night, and it was wonderful. Besides, cooking for one is a lonely activity.
So then…it’s an absolutely fantastic thing that my wonderful sister lives two floors below me (well, at least from where I’m staying this summer), loves food, and will take the time to prepare an awesome meal. Eating out has met its match – my best cuisines of the summer is happening right below in my sister’s apartment :)
PS – I’m going to see (500) Days of Summer tomorrow. I can’t wait.

Day 15. A bit of quiet.
Walking around Boston a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the Boston Public Library (which is, to be honest, quite difficult to miss). The monolithic architecture drew me in, and once inside…wow. It almost resembled more of a museum than a library…except without the “hands-off” attitude of a museum, which is a good thing in my book (absolutely no pun intended). Long story short, it was just beautiful inside, and I didn’t want to leave. Shame, then, that closing time was just minutes away. I’ll be back for sure.
You can almost hear the sounds (or the lack thereof) in this picture. Sometimes we need excitement and adventure in life. Sometimes we just need a bit of peace and quiet…even if its just to plan for the next big thing.

Day 8. When buildings fall.
I saw this article on Gizmodo today:
When I was in Shanghai for the summer in 2006, we lived in an apartment in Xujiahui. One morning, we heard the loudest booming noise and the building shuddered. I thought it was an earthquake. A wall of smoke slowly passed by our balcony window. This is what we saw. Some construction site next to our building had collapsed…imploded. Exciting times!

Today I had to check the mail. Since we share one mailbox key, my mother had to take the key off of her key ring and hand it to me. I rode the elevator down to the first floor. As I exited the elevator, the mailbox key slipped through my fingers. I heard the key hit the metal lip between the elevator and the building. Hoping to find the key either in the elevator, or outside of it, I looked down. Then I heard a distance clang as the key reached the bottom of the elevator shaft.
It took me a few minutes to find the humor in it all. Next time, I’ll take the stairs.
